Indian markets showed little signs of nervousness ahead of the Brexit poll results, which is expected by Friday noon.

The markets, which were trading nearly flat till noon, were aided by gains in the European markets and saw a sudden gain. While the S&P BSE Sensex breached the 27,000-mark and closed 236.57 points (0.88%) higher at 27,002.22, the Nifty 50 ended 66.75 points (0.81%) higher at 8270.45.

“Aided by an upmove in European markets, domestic bourses closed the day with gains of nearly 1%. A pair of opinion polls indicating that the 'remain' camp in the UK was gaining momentum, helped prop up European markets,” BNP Paribas Mutual Fund Fund Manager – Equities Shreyash Devalkar said.

Despite the gains, declining stocks were much more than advancing stocks on the NSE with 943 declines and 615 advances.
