Summer perfect salads and cocktails

Last Updated 29 June 2016, 19:56 IST

A diverse range of salads, cocktails and bar bites, all perfect for summer, summarise the new additions in Depot 29’s menu. They have attempted to turn around with salads and appetisers by incorporating in gredients like root vegetables, cherry tomatoes and mangoes.

Service, ambience and music at Depot 29 are its USPs. The casual dining bar gives room for privacy and peaceful conversations. Weekly events featuring budding and talented musicians make the place stand out in the crowd in commercial complex of Safdarjung Enclave, which houses numerous popular restaurants.

We headed to the restaurant on a casual Monday evening and were first served with ‘Beetroot Salad’ with avocado and goat cheese. Fresh and raw, the salad was a nice and healthy starter for the day. We coupled it with a ‘Monicatini’, which was Depot 29’s Mexican rendition to a classic rum and lemonade cocktail. With fresh chilli topped on the drink, the cocktail is a unique combination of sugar, spice and all things nice.

Next up was ‘Quinoa Salad’, stuffed with pomegranate and topped with round lettuce and soy sauce. A lemon flavoured Maicuba cocktail paired with it, and the combination would turn out to be exactly the way you desired.

Within minutes, we were served with our next dish, ‘Grilled Chicken Taco’. Stuffed with smoky hot and spicy chicken, the taco was quite a surprise (though a pleasant one) after the succulent salads that we had just tried.

The new additions in the menu also include a variety of pork dishes one could pick from. Metrolife suggests ‘Pulled pork and Refried Beans Quesadilla’ as a must try.

In the taco bar section, the restaurant has given a Vietnamese style ‘Banh-Mi’, which is a combination of chicken and pickled vegetables with Sriracha sauce. In another taco twist, they have the ‘Slow Roasted Pumpkin, Feta cheese and Pine nuts’ taco, which is a delightful combination of sweetness of slow roasted pumpkin with the smooth saltiness of feta cheese. The nuttiness of pine nuts in addition to it, is something that will be loved by vegetarian food lovers.

After a nice meal with no feeling of being stuffed with food, we had enough room for desserts. The restaurant has a separate ‘Dessert for the day’ section in the menu and we were served with ‘Banana and toffee’ waffles and a classic ‘Red Velvet pastry’.
So where the summer heat is constantly taking a toll on Delhiites, Depot 29’s artistic introductions in the menu can give you a nice breather.
