Rain enters paddy fields, shandy

Trees uprooted, power supply disrupted due to incessant rain in Kodagu

With incessant rain lashing across Kodagu district, the district administration has declared holiday for schools and colleges on Thursday.

In the last 24 hours, the district has received an average of 127.74 mm rainfall. This includes 177.55 mm in Madikeri, and 104.88 mm in Virajpet. Bhagamandala received highest of 255.4 mm followed by Napoklu – 188.4, Sampaje – 138.6 mm and Madikeri Kasaba – 127.8 mm.

Heggala, Thora, Kakotuparambu, Devanageri, Chembebollur, Ontiyangadi, Ammathi, Palibetta, Betoli, Arji, Bittangala and other villages in the district experienced good rainfall.

Bhagamandala has been inundated. With the uprooting of trees in various layouts, the power supply in the district was disrupted till evening. A house collapsed in Ambedkar layout in Ranipete in Madikeri. The house belongs to Parameshwar.

The rain caused inconvenience to buyers and sellers at the shandy in Virajpet. With the increase in water-level in Kadanoor stream, the water has entered paddy fields.
