Weekend saw a kidnap-ransom, an assault and a suicide

At 7.30 am, a BMTC bus injured a Pedestrian, Alamelamma (55) on Mysore Road. While the BMTC bus “touched” Almelamma, the entire situation turned serious as residents of Pantrapalya slum staged a protest and pelted stones at the bus, shattering the windshield and the window panes of the bus. The police later registered a case and dispersed the crowd.

In a separate incident in the evening, a BMTC bus knocked down Mantu Kumar (26) of Bihar, while he was crossing the N R Road. Kumar who had alighted a BMTC bus was trying to cross the road after the N R Circle flyover when the tragedy occurred.
Fearing public backlash, the driver of the bus fled, leaving the 26-year old writhing in pain. Rushed to the Victoria Hospital by police, Mantu Kumar was declared dead on arrival. The City Market police seized the bus.

Businessman assaulted
The owner of a private firm sustained serious injuries when he was assaulted by some rivals Saturday night at Chikkasandra near Soladevanahalli.
Police said Suresh, a resident of Chikkasandra was riding his bike home when he was accosted by four men in a car who attacked him with lethal weapons. Leaving him bleeding, the quartet fled from the spot. Suresh has been admitted to a private hospital.
Police are looking for Suresh’s rival Giri and his accomplices.

Bikers rob man
Sitting on somebody’s parked motorcycle proved costly to a man who was robbed by three miscreants and was released only after paying a ‘ransom’ of Rs 7,000.
The incident occurred at Sarakki Market under JP Nagar police station limits on Saturday night. The victim of the incident is Arjun Jolie, who complained to the JP Nagar police that Saturday night he had a dinner in a restaurant and coming out, he sat on a motorcycle parked in front of the hotel.

Soon, three men landed up and picked up a quarrel with him for sitting on ‘their’ bike. They forced him to accompany them to a lonely place near the Sarakki Market where they assaulted him with a helmet, robbed him of Rs 700 and demanded Rs. 20,000 to release him. A badly shaken Arjun called a friend who brought along Rs 7,000 with him. Arjun paid the money to the trio after which he was released.
He rushed to the JP Nagar police station and lodged a complaint. He told police that one of the accused described himself as Narendra. Police are investigating.

Granny commits suicide
Agonised by the death of her granddaughter in a fire mishap, an elderly woman jumped into a well at Tyagarajanagar on Saturday.
Police said, Jayamma (65)of Javare Gowda Garden was depressed after her granddaughter Sushma died of burn injuries she sustained in a stove burst.
The Tyagarajanagar police have registered a case.

Chain snatchers nabbed
Police arrested Srinivas (26) alias Seena of Hemmigepura village in Kengeri Hobli and Chandrashekhar alias Chandra (26) of Kadanayakanahalli in Kengeri. Gold chains and other valuables worth Rs 2.75 lakh were recovered from them.
