A 39-year-old man attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head at an eucalyptus grove near Kallabalu in Jigani of Anekal taluk on Tuesday.

According to police, the victim - identified as Krishna, a resident of Anekal - was working as a cashier-cum-manager in a co-operative bank in Kallabalu. On Tuesday morning, Krishna on his way to office, went to the grove and shot himself with a 0.25 mm pistol. Passersby, who heard a loud sound, found him lying in a pool of blood. They alerted the police.

“He was shifted to a private hospital in the city. He shot himself on the right side of the head and the bullet has stuck inside. He was breathing and was taken to the hospital. The doctors said they will operate on him on Wednesday and remove the bullet. Chances of his survival would have been slim had the bullet come out of the other side of the head,” police said.

“When his colleagues were questioned, they said that he was a prompt and honest worker. No one had complained against him or his work. A bag found in the grove had a few medical records. It is suspected that he was suffering from some ailments, driving him to attempt suicide,” police said. A case has been registered at the Jigani police station.
