JOIN USThe Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued summons to former Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti in a money laundering probe related to Aircel-Maxis deal.
This is the first time that Karti is being summoned after the ED registered the case. Karti has been asked to be present in person or through an authorised representative to submit personal financial documents this week. After receiving the summons, Karti has sought more time to appear before the agency and the ED is examining his request. Sources said the agency may accept his request if it finds that the reasons cited are genuine.
The ED case is based on the chargesheet filed by the CBI. Earlier, the ED had questioned former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanidhi. The case came up after CBI probe claimed that Maran “abused official position and constricted” the business environment of Aircel.
