Kodagu Festival in April, May

Addressing a press meet here on Monday, KDHRA President B Ganesh Annaiah said that the festival will be organised with an objective of introducing Kodagu culture, food items and traditions to the tourists. The festival will be organised with the participation of government, he added.

Annaiah said that the KDHRA was launched in 2000 to promote tourism in the district. In the early stage, many hotels and restaurants in Kodagu had to close down due to lack of response. However, tourism industry saw sea changes in the recent years, he said and welcomed government’s initiative of promoting home stays in the district.

He pointed out that the district lacks sufficient number of hotel rooms. About 20,000 - 25,000 tourists arrive in the district on all weekends. Meanwhile, there are about 2,730 hotel rooms and nearly 170 restaurants available for tourists in Kodagu, Annaiah informed.
Association has decided that hotels and restaurants in the district should give priority for cleanliness and should provide tasty food to tourists during the festival, Annaiah said.

Allegations baseless
Talking about the allegations of lack of security and infrastructure in hotels in the district, Annaiah said that those are all baseless allegations levelled by people with vested interests. They are trying to misguide tourists for their personal benefits, he added.
Annaiah requested Police, Excise and RTO authorities to relax rules to certain extent in order to promote tourism in the district. Government should take initiative to develop infrastructure, he urged.

Association’s Advisor M C Vasudev, Vice-President J V Kote, Treasurer Vivekananda Kamath and General Secretary Jahir Ahmed were present.
