Before he hanged himself, DySP M K Ganapathi revealed the “ordeal” he endured under his higher-ups, before a local channel.

In a 36-minute interview, Ganapathi, a 1994 batch officer, said he started his service as a sub-inspector at Aldur in Chikkamagaluru district.

In 2008, he was an inspector at Kadri station in Mangaluru city, when a church was attacked. Satish Kumar was the Superintendent of Police and A M Prasad was IGP (Western range).

Following the attack, commotion prevailed, with police caning the mob. Ganapathi and several others were injured. Ganapathi also produced photographs of the incident during his interview.

Later, Ganapathi was transferred to Yeshwantpur station in Bengaluru on the
recommendation of a legislator.

Prashanth, a rowdy-sheeter in the area, had sexually assaulted his (Prashanth’s) fiancee and was arrested by Ganapathi. However, Prashanth came out of jail 10 days later.
According to Ganapathi, a DCP of the same sub-division was exerting tremendous pressure on him for money (hafta).

Ganapathi said the top officer had repeatedly threatened him, asking him to quit his job or face action for Prashanth’s “fake” encounter.

According to Ganapathi, following a complaint over a church attack in Mangaluru, former home minister K J George had suspended him for one month after foisting several charges.

Ganapathi, at one point during his interview, questions the source of the George’s income, which he says runs into several crores, besides the huge assets he owns in Kodagu.

“Ministers in the Congress government have not only harassed me, but several other honest officers continue to face the same treatment,” added Ganapathi.

“I have delivered the best wherever I was posted and have also disposed of a site in Bengaluru after joining the department. I don’t need bribes, as I am content with the property left behind by my ancestors...,” said Ganapathi.
