The High Court on Monday directed the Yelachenahalli residents to submit their representation to the managing director of Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to rename the Puttenahalli Metro station after Yelachenahalli.

Y V Annaiah, A Munisanjeevappa and other residents of Yelachenahalli have filed a public interest litigation (PIL) contending that the station has been wrongly named as Puttenahalli, though it was located in Yelachenahalli and Jaraganahalli villages.

Contention

The petitioners had said that if a person is travelling to Puttenahalli, he or she will be misled, as Puttenahalli is two km away from the said station.

The petitioners had given a representation to the BMRCL in 2012 and legal notices were also issued to the authorities in this regard, but there was no response from BMRCL.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath disposed of the petition.
