Honest officers opting for voluntary retirement: MP

Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje on Friday said that many upright officers, unable to withstand the harassment from the government, are opting for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).

Addressing reporters here on Friday, the MP said that the government servants work under constant fear due to harassment by the ministers and the Congress leaders.

The MP said, “An officer, who had served at Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and unearthed the advertisement mafia, has applied for VRS after he was transfered. Similarly, a 1992 batch IPS officer, has also applied for VRS owing to harassment. I have contacted them over phone and requested them not to apply for VRS.”

Referring to the assault on IAS officer Rashmi V Mahesh and the recent threat to C Shikha by the former ZP president K Marigowda, Karandlaje said, “The chief minister has failed to protect officers in his home district and many officers are not willing to work in the state. Though the officers have filed cases against Congressmen, police are hesitant to take action against them as they are chief minister’s confidants.”

Karnataka is in news for all wrong reasons after Congress came to power, Karandlaje said. On former Kudiligi DySP Anupama Shenoy’s case, she said, “The government would have continued her in service but failed to take necessary action against the culprits.”

Police Inspector Mohan Kumar, who had booked the chief minister Siddaramaiah's son Rakesh, was suspended and was later reinstated before being transferred from Nazarbad Police Station in Mysuru to Karwar, she said.  “As Mohan’s wife is suffering from health issues, the government must transfer him back to Mysuru region,” she demanded.

The MP also visited the house of Mohan and enquired about the well-being of the family.
