Mallalli Falls regains glory

Tourists visit in hordes; slippery road adds to woes

Mallalli Falls has regained its glory following incessant rain in the district. Tourists are visiting the falls in hordes of late. Water falling from a height of 150 feet is a cynosure of all eyes, especially for the past 10 days.

It is a sight to behold when one views the falls from a vacant field on the way, with the verdant Western Ghats and Pushpagiri Hills enhancing the visual treat. It is located at a distance of three km from Hanchinahalli enroute Pushpagiri between Somwarpet and Shanthalli. Before reaching Mallalli, one has to pass through rivulets.

Following the increase in tourist footfalls, especially during the vacation, the Tourism Department has initiated several works for the benefit of visitors. Work on the three km concrete stretch is underway, besides stairs facing the falls.

As the road works are yet to be completed, the visitors are forced to ride on the stretch. It has turned into a marshy field due to copious rainfall. If the works are completed on time, it may benefit a large number of visitors who come to visit when the water falls regains life during the next rainy season.

Prashanth, a tourist from Ananthpur in Andhra Pradesh, said, “Undoubtedly the place attracts many. But it lags behind in safety measures. There are no proper sign and warning boards either. The local panchayat which collects  fee from tourists should provide adequate facilities.” Mukund from Haryana said, “If more facilities are created, it may attract more tourists.”
