CM, Revanna trade charges

Last Updated 02 March 2010, 17:58 IST

The discussion on power situation in the State turned into a blame game with Revanna accusing Yeddyurappa of being directly responsible for causing losses to the state exchequer in crores by “directing” officials to purchase coal for thermal power stations in the state at above markets rates and more than required quantity.

On the other hand, Yeddyurappa charged that the JD(S) government had awarded coal transport contract to SICL, a company owned by party Rajya Sabha member MAM Ramaswamy at 36 per cent above market rates, causing losses to the exchequer to the tune of Rs 100 crore. A decision to award the contract had been made even after the BJP withdrew support to the government in October 2007, he charged.

To counter Yeddyurappa’s charge, Revanna alleged that despite recommendations by a sub-committing of top ranking officers to the contrary, the CM had written to KPCL Managing Director in July 2008 to purchase six lakh tonnes of coal from Bhatia company for the Raichur Thermal Plant.
