BJP seeks probe into cleaning contract

Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta of the BJP has sought a CBI probe into the contracts given by the Delhi government for desilting of drains as people were suffering due to waterlogging.

Claiming corruption in the process and cleaning of drains by the PWD on papers, the BJP leader threatened to sit outside the CM’s residence on Wednesday to protest against swindling of crores of rupees.

“Flooding of roads and colonies is happening even during normal downpour,” said Gupta.
As politics over waterlogging got intense, the AAP government in the city issued notices to central government-controlled entities – Delhi Development Authority and public sector company National Buildings Construction Corporation – for obstructing the drainage system and causing water logging at AIIMS flyover and Sarita Vihar underpass.

The order issued under section 133 CrPC by SDMs of concerned areas directed these two organisations to ensure removal of debris and other obstructions within 24 hours and submit  progress reports. The notice was issued under provisions dealing with removal of nuisance.

Gupta earlier said Delhiites were experiencing great inconvenience due to extensive water logging and he had shared his concern for them through his tweet.

“The truth remains that the government has committed gross irregularities in cleansing of drains. The Chief Minister has no time for Delhi and Delhiites since he is more concerned about Punjab and Goa and national issues,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition said that the AAP government was working with vengeance for his attack on corruption. “An FIR was registered against me out of narrow political considerations. The government is continually harassing the Opposition. The FIR was filed to put pressure on me,” said Gupta.

He said that the government may file any number of FIRs, but he will not be intimidated
On Monday, the AAP had approached the Delhi Police seeking an FIR against  Gupta for tweeting ‘misleading’ and ‘false’ photos showing waterlogged roads in the city.

In its complaint to the Cyber Cell, AAP’s Delhi unit convenor Dilip Pandey claimed the BJP leader tweeted a photo on Sunday that showed ‘false pictures’ of waterlogged roads.
