Rain continues to lash parts of state

Various parts of the state continued to receive moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday also.

Following heavy rainfall that lashed the region for the second day on Friday, a man was electrocuted, and a woman suffered injuries after she was struck by lightning in Hunsur taluk, Mysuru district.

Nagesh (26) was electrocuted on the outskirts of Hunsur, when it started raining. Hunsur Town Police have registered a case. Saraswathi, (56), wife of Raju of Hosahalli, Hanagodu hobli, in Hunsur taluk, was working in fields when she was struck by lightning.

Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed the taluk. Banana plantations were destroyed in the village while the roof of a house was blown away. Light showers that started in Mysuru city and surrounding areas around 3.30 pm continued for about two hours. H D Kote, Hunsur, Nanjangud and T Narasipur taluks, and Bligere, Devalapura, Mallahalli, Vajamangala and other villages under Varuna hobli also received light to heavy rains.

There was a downpour for more than an hour in Chamarajanagar city and surrounding areas. Bandipur National Park in Gundlupet taluk received a good spell of rains filling up ponds and lakes. With summer ahead, this would help small animals and birds to quench their thirst. Arsikere, Channarayapatna and Saklespur taluks in Hassan district received heavy rains for sometime on Friday evening. Mandya and Hassan districts remained overall cloudy.

Light drizzle lashed parts of Belagavi city on Friday bringing the mercury level down. The temperature had been soaring over 30 degrees. Cloudy weather prevailed in the city for the last couple of days. People enjoyed the light drizzle and hardly anybody was seen running for cover.

Channagiri taluk in Davangere district recived good rainfall on Friday. The region received good rainfall on Thursday night also. A few villages, including, Ramaghatta, Uchchangidurga, U Kallahalli, Bevinahalli, Nagathikadde and Megalagere, received good rainfall, making the farmers cheerful. Koppal city also recieved good rainfall on Thursday and Friday too.

Heavy rain lashed Hubballi city for nearly an hour on Friday evening, while Dharwad also received a few rounds of showers. The weather remained cloudy throughout the day, and it started raining heavily in the evening.

Moderate to heavy rain accompanied by strong wind and thunder lashed several parts of Shivamogga district, on Friday. Shikaripur, Hosanagar, Thirthahalli and Bhadravathi received good spell of rain. Power supply was disrupted at Yaduru in Hosanagar taluk for short period as tree was uprooted on electric pole. Shivamogga, Sagar and Sorab received moderate rain.

Various parts of Haveri district received heavy rainfall for the last two days. Dank weather prevailed throughout the day. Byadagi and Hirekerur taluks also received good rainfall, while, Hangal, Shiggaon, Savanur, Ranebennur, Guttal, Kumarapattana and Tilavalli received moderate rainfall.

Chitradurga district received moderate rainfall accompanied with gusty wind, thunder and lightning on Thursday night. Molakalmur, Hiriyur and Bharamsagar also reported good showers.

Kudligi in Ballari district received showers on Thursday and Friday night. A few sheep were killed and power supply was disrupted as electricity poles were uprooted in Shivapura village. Naregal in Ron taluk of Gadag district received good rainfall. It drizzled in Karwar, Siddapur, Mundgod, Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district.
