Meeting to discuss urban development authorities bill

Last Updated 21 July 2016, 20:03 IST

Urban Development Minister Roshan Baig will shortly convene a meeting of all stakeholders to discuss pros and cons of the Karnataka Urban Development Authorities (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Baig told Deccan Herald on Thursday that he would first hold a meeting with officials and a meeting would be held to garner public opinion.

‘No complaints’

He said that contrary to media reports, his office had not received any complaints pertaining to the bill which has been passed by the legislature.

“But as there are some contentions, I will call for a meeting of stakeholders and public,” he added.

The bill, which seeks to reduce space reserved for parks and playgrounds from 15% to 10% and civic amenity sites from 10% to 5%, was hurriedly passed in the state legislature on July 19. It is not applicable to Bengaluru.

It, however, will affect about 250 small towns and cities across the state.
