Tur dal at Rs 130/kg at FKCCI head office today, tomorrow

The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) will sell tur dal at Rs 130 per kg at its head office on KG Road on Friday and Saturday. This counter will be in addition to the five centres where the commodity is being sold at wholesale price for the last two weeks.

On July 8, the Bangalore Wholesale Food Grains and Pulses Merchants’ Association (BWFGMA) and the FKCCI started selling tur dal at wholesale price at Yeshwantpur, New Tharagupet, Mysuru Road, Yelahanka and Koramangala in an effort to bring down the retail prices. At the new counter, a person can buy a maximum of 4 kg of tur dal, an FKCCI representative told Deccan Herald. Premium unpolished and cleaned dal will be sold in packets of one and two kg.

BWFGMA president Ramesh Chandra Lahoti said the move was aimed at further reducing the retail price of tur dal and giving consumers a fair deal. Earlier, tur dal was retailing at Rs 165-220 per kg, but after wholesalers started the direct sale, the retail price came down to Rs 155-165 per kg. The price is likely to drop by Rs 5 in the coming days, Lahoti said.

The state government had permitted retailers to keep a profit margin of Rs 15 to Rs 18 per kg, which covers the transport and packaging cost. But they were selling it at a high price, he said. “This is why wholesalers decided to step in by organising such sales. And they have worked,” Lahoti said, adding that the sales would continue till the end of this month and could be extended to other places based on the demand.

At the FKCCI head office on Friday, a mobile unit having 1,500 kg of tur dal will be stationed. Based on demand, the stock will be increased. Lahoti said there was no shortage of produce.
