Delay in road widening work decried

Last Updated 22 July 2016, 18:48 IST
Members of People’s Movement for Human Rights and residents staged a protest against the inordinate delay in widening work of the Mahadevapete Road in the city on Friday.

The protesters urged the City Muncipal Council (CMC) to speed up the work, to provide footpath to pedestrians and also cover open drains with slabs.  They also insisted that CMC president and commissioner should come to the spot for inspection.

A CMC engineer visited the venue and informed the protesters that putting slabs on open drains is not included in the project. He said the pedestrians should use alternative route till the road work is completed.

The protesters were disappointed with the justification given by the engineer. They argued that the officials and the elected representatives are avoiding the real problems, by giving vague answers.

Forum president Harish Acharya said the forum will file a case in court against the CMC president and the commissioner for not providing basic facilities to citizens.

Plea to the DC
Acharya attended a public interaction meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Richard Vincent D’Souzaand submitted a memorandum with the details of the problem.

The DC assured of them taking necessary measures. Leaders R B Ravi, E L Ashok, Nityananda Rai, residents Harish, Ganesh Acharya, R B Pravin, Shafi, Ibrahim and Jayaram were present.
