CID probe: District In-charge Minister 'contradicts' his statement

Last Updated 23 July 2016, 18:34 IST

Kodagu District In-charge Minister M R Seetharam on Saturday came out with contrasting statements over criminal investigation department (CID) enquiry into Dy SP M K Ganapathi’s suicide case.

Speaking to media after offering bagina to Harangi reservoir near Kushalnagar here, Seetharam said that CID had submitted its interim report to the government, only to eat his words.

He quickly corrected adding that the investigation team has submitted the report to their higher ups.

“I don’t know the contents of the report, barring what has appeared in media”.
The minister who lost his cool later, quipped “You (media) have telecast the report across the country”.

On the prevailing confusion over probe, the minister sought to clarify that a retired judge has been appointed to conduct a judicial enquiry. A first information report (FIR) has been registered as per court order.

He questioned the silence of opposition parties with regard to suicide of another DySP, Kallappa Handibag. The opposition leaders who kept mum even when most farmers ended their lives, are politicising Ganapathi’s suicide, he added.

He said it was unfair to blame the government as some may have ended their lives due to personal reasons. Before leaving, the minister denied to answer any queries further.
