Houses at risk as neighbour's digging exposes foundations

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the police don’t seem to have learnt from the Koramangala incident where three labourers were killed at a construction site recently.

There is risk of a similar incident at Muniswamappa Layout opposite the Ramamurthynagar police station in Vijinapura ward.

A builder has excavated soil, exposing the foundation of adjacent buildings, to construct an apartment. The danger is evident from the fact that a portion of the road has caved in while no proper barricading has been done to prevent any untoward incident.

One of the neighbours whose property is at risk, told Deccan Herald on condition of anonymity that he pleaded with the builder to stop the work but he was in no mood to listen. “The work is happening with the monsoon having set in. Rain will loosen soil causing severe damage to the foundation of our building. We don't have any option but to wait for a tragedy to strike us,” lamented the neighbour.

When contacted, chief engineer of Mahadevapura zone, Parameshwaraiah, said he was not aware of any builder excavating soil threatening adjacent buildings. He said the neighbours should have complained to the BBMP. He added that he would soon initiate action.
