The Department of Women and Child Welfare has recommended these benefits for consideration in the budget.<br /><br />At present Anganwadi workers are not entitled for either pension or retirement benefit. Workers get a monthly honorarium of Rs 2,500 and assistants Rs 1,250. <br />As of now, the government had not fixed the retirement age for them. As many as 54,260 anganwadi centres and 405 mini centres are functioning in the state. Hundreds of workers aged more than 65 years are also working.<br /><br />The department has proposed the Finance Department, held by the Chief Minister, to fix 65 years as retirement age for the workers and release a sum of Rs one lakh for workers and Rs 50,000 for assistants after retirement. <br /><br />The government will require about Rs 8 crore to release the amount to 153 workers and 853 assistants retiring on March 31 and 76 workers and 296 assistants retiring in the next financial year (2010-11). The department has also proposed a pension scheme as an alternative to the one-time retirement benefit. <br /><br />The scheme suggests a cut of Rs 150 from monthly honorarium of workers and Rs 75 from that of assistants and government would contribute the equal amount. After retirement workers should get monthly pension of Rs 500 and assistants Rs 300 besides return of corpus (ROC). In case of death of the beneficiary the dependents would get Rs 80,000.<br /><br />About 3.6 lakh SHGs are active in the State. The department has proposed to release a revolving fund of Rs 5,000 each to 50,000 women SHGs in the State and bring them under the Stree Shakti programme. <br />DH News Service</p>
