KSRTC bus fares hiked

Last Updated 03 March 2010, 20:15 IST

But with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) polls inching closer, the State chose to leave the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) fares untouched for now.

The recent hike in petroleum and diesel prices was the government’s rationale for increasing the tariff.

The revised fares came into effect from the midnight of Wednesday-Thursday.
The bus fares for North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) has also been hiked by 4.93 per cent, while the fares for North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) is up by 4.74 per cent.

The fare increase, on the cards since Saturday, is bound to hit the common man already reeling under the soaring prices of essential commodities over the last few months.
