PM seeks suggestions for his I-Day speech

Calling himself “Pradhan Sevak” of the people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday  invited suggestions for his third Independence Day speech that he will deliver from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15.

Addressing the nation during his 22nd edition of the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme, he appealed to the citizens to celebrate August 8 like ‘Diwali’ as this was the day when Mahatma Gandhi gave the ‘Quit India’ call to the imperial British rulers 75 years ago. He asked the countrymen to also celebrate Independence Day along with August 8 like a festival by creating an atmosphere of nationalism, emphasising that the marking of the two occasions in the country should not just remain “a government function.”

Call for new ideas
“You may be having something which you would want to be told to the nation from the Red Fort. I invite you to write to me whatever feelings you have, what you feel that as your representative, as your “Pradhan Sevak” (prime servant), I should speak about from the Red Fort. Give suggestions, give advice, give new ideas. I will try to convey those to all countrymen,” the prime minister said.
