Rains submerge bridges in Kalaburagi district

Fishing to resume in coastal districts after 61-day ban

 Heavy rains lashed Kalaburagi and Mangaluru districts on Sunday.
A part of the A part of the tower of the historic Hazrat Safdar Hussain Darga in Ratkal village in Chincholi taluk of Kalaburagi district collapsed due to the rains which battered the district in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

The tower, which had been closed for some time now, had grown weak. The recent rains weakened the structure leading to its partial collapse. The darga structure is 700 to 800 years old.

A bridge-cum-barrage across the River Bennethora near Malakooda village in Chittapura taluk was submerged, following floods in the river in the wee hours of Sunday.

Crops grown on hundreds of acres of land adjoining the barrage were washed away in the flood.

Chittapura taluk has been receiving heavy rains for the past few days and the River Bennethora was flowing above the danger mark.

This is for the third time in a week that the barrage submerged, the villagers said.
A bridge constructed across Kagina river near Dandoti village in the taluk was also submerged due to incessant rains. Vehicle movement on the route came to a standstill for more than 10 hours.

Incessant rains continue to lash Dakshina Kannada on Sunday.
In the last 24 hours, Belthangady received 32.9 mm of rains followed by Sullia—32.9 mm, Puttur—22.7 mm, Bantwal—20.8 mm and Mangaluru—19.1 mm. Kodagu district recorded an average of 16.36 mm rainfall.

The fishing season will resume in the coastal district on Monday after a 61-day ban.
The government had banned fishing from June 1 to July 31 in the west coast since monsoon is the breeding season for fish.

Reckless fishing during monsoon will adversely affect fishing in the later months.
