A group of women has taken upon itself to bring the residents of Malleswaram together for some fun-filled activities. The first such initiative took place on Sunday where a cycle day and walkathon event were held.

Hundreds of people gathered to participate in the cycle day event that took place in association with the Directorate of Urban Land Transport and the Malleswaram Residents’ Welfare Association.

The streets around the Government Girls’ College on Malleswaram 13th Cross were free of traffic enabling children to play traditional games. Also, the residents took part in singing events. Street games like kavade, chowkabara, alaguli mane, tyre race, tug-of-war, lagori, skipping and hop scotch kept the old and young engaged at the same time.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Bhuvi Kilpady, one of the members of the group, said that a few women in the locality who were brimming with ideas wanted to bring the residents together and hence formed a group.

The core group has women from different walks of life. While Kilpady is a fashion designer by profession, Preeti Sunderajan is the CEO of Fitkids Education Pvt Ltd, Seema Harsha the co-founder of Indiassetz, Megha Suhas the program director at GAIT, Sowmya Mavinkurve a banker, Vajra Nagesh the director of Thiashola Plantations Pvt Ltd, Dr Nishita Rao a gynecologist at Lakshmi Maternity and Surgical Centre are the other core members.
On the occasion, Rashmi Attavar, an Indian-American gifted over 100 plants to the people who sang at the event.

“We have started this to begin with. Each of us have different ideas. In the future, we will have initiatives that will see the elderly interact with children where each of them would share stories,” said Kilpady.
