Palike begins desilting SWD at Madiwala lake

Last Updated 31 July 2016, 20:11 IST

The BBMP began desilting work of the stormwater drain (SWD) at the Madiwala lake on Sunday. BBMP commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad told Deccan Herald that the measure may stop overflowing in the lake.

The water from Kodichikkanahalli lake is also being drained out and the diversion canal there is being desilted. Areas such as Bellandur, Jahnavi apartments and Kumba lake shore at Kodichikkanahalli, two apartments in Duo Enclave, Bommanahalli and a few quarters at BTM second stage have been facing inundation due to rain. Palike officials said most of the rainwater has been pumped out of the affected houses.

“Dwellers in the Jahnavi apartments have understood that their building is prone to floods as it comes in the way of the SWD. Hence, they have agreed to let us build a rajakaluve (primary canal) which will occupy a part of the apartment compound,” said Palike executive engineer Srinivas Murthy.
