Helmetless Nepalese biker hits pavement near Sankey Tank, dies

A biker rider was killed on the spot after he hit a pavement next to the Sankey tank in the early hours of Monday.

The victim was identified as Prakash Luhar (20), a native of Nepal who worked as a cook at a hotel near Bhashyam Circle in Sadashivanagar. Luhar was not wearing helmet, said the police. The accident occurred around 12.40 am when Luhar was on his way to the hotel from 18th cross, Malleswaram.

He lost balance and hit the pavement. The bike moved on the pavement and collided against a traffic signboard. Luhar sustained head injuries and fell on the road. He was taken to M S Ramaiah Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The police are awaiting post-mortem report to ascertain whether he was drunk.

Driver killed
In another accident, a private bus driver was killed on the spot on Sunday night after a two-wheeler knocked him down in front of FFI Factory on Tumakuru Road. The victim was identified as M C Ramesh (39), a resident of Dodda Bommasandra and an employee of  National Travels.

The police said Ramesh parked the bus in front of the factory and got down to collect a food packet.

After collecting the food packet, he opened the door to get into the driver’s cabin of the bus, when Rajesh (30), a resident of Dasarahalli, lost control over his bike and mowed down Ramesh.

Ramesh fell on the road and sustained serious head injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. Rajesh was also hospitalised, said the police.

Boys drown in lake
Two boys who went for a swim in the Abbigere Lake drowned on Sunday.
The deceased were identified Sudarshan (11) and his brother Manoj (13), residents of Rama temple near MIT College.

Sudarshan and Manoj went with three other boys to the lake for a swim. The two were struck in the silt and drowned. The three other children, who witnessed the drowning, rushed back to inform the victims’ mother Bhagya.

The trio went back as she was not at house, said the police. Bhagya approached the police late in the night as her children did not return. A few local residents spotted the children’s clothes near the lake and informed the police.

The police and fire force retrieved the bodies.
