CBI initiates internal inquiry into sexual harassment charges

Last Updated 04 March 2010, 13:27 IST

While the CBI, which has given the investigation into the case to the Delhi Police, remained tight lipped over the issue officially, sources in the agency said an internal inquiry had been initiated on the basis of the complaint filed by the woman public prosecutor against Sunder Lal, Deputy Legal Advisor.

The internal inquiry will be headed by a woman IPS officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector General of police who will go into all aspects, including the messages purportedly sent by him on her mobile, the sources said.

The inquiry would be separate from investigations being conducted by the Delhi Police which has registered a complaint under section 354 of IPC (outraging modesty of a woman).
Efforts to get a reaction from Lal did not fructify as no one was answering his office phone.
