Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene will hold a farmers’ convention in front of the Raitha Bhavan in the town on Thursday condemning the police atrocity against protesting farmers for Mahadayi water.

Addressing protesters here on Wednesday, K S Shanthaswamimath of Raitha Sangha said that the state government used the police force for suppressing the farmers’ agitation for Mahadayi.

He demanded that the government should implement Kalasa-Banduri project at the earliest and bear the medical expenses of the persons injured in the lathi charge. He also sought that the cases filed against the farmers should be withdrawn and they should be released from jails immediately.

Deputy Commissioner Bommanahalli, speaking at separate meeting in the wake of the protest planned by farmers, said that there won’t be Navalgund bandh on Thursday.

“Though we have not clamped prohibitory orders, liquor shops have been directed to down shutters. We have not imposed any restrictions and the protesters should ensue a peaceful demonstration,” he said.
