Suvarna corridor project: Samiti stages protest

Forwarding the memorandum to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa through DC Hemalatha, Samithi President Suhas Hedge informed that 1138.04 acres of land comprising Belamannu, Nandalike and Sooda are notified for Karnataka Suvarna Corridor Project and this has caused worry among people of being rendered homeless.

“As many as thousand families will be loosing their land, besides the rich cultural heritage of the area will be destroyed,” he added.

“CM has assured us during previous occasions that his government is not into acquiring agricultural lands. However we will be contented only through formally approved and authorized statement,” he added.

Receiving the memorandum, DC Hemalatha said she has been informed regarding the withdrawal of the project in the area by the government. She will forward the authorised letter once she receives it. The entire process of denotification needs three to four days, she added.

Suhas Hegde said if government fails to keep up its assurance, Samiti will take up rigorous protest followed by indefinite hunger strike.

District BJP President Deviparasad Shetty, Samiti Honarary Presidents Krishna Shetty, S K Saliyan, Vignesh Bhat, Vice Presidents N Shashidhar Shetty, Shankar Kunder, N Mohandas Shetty, Secretary Xavier D Mello and others were present.
