A superb bowling performance from Jaydev Patel handed Baroda Cricket Association a convincing 85-run victory over KSCA President’s XI in the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappaiah memorial all-India invitational tournament at the RSI ground on Saturday.

Having to chase a daunting 409 for a win, President’s XI could only muster 323 all out in 72.1 overs. The star of the show for Baroda was Patel, who returned with figures of 8/88.

Sadiq Kirmani (73), Liyan Khan (51) and KC Cariappa (52) all notched up half-centuries but their knocks were not enough for the hosts to overhaul the target.

Baroda walked home with six points in their final Group D match.
Despite the win, Baroda failed to qualify for the semifinals as they finished level on points (10) with Vidarbha Cricket Association but the latter progressed by virtue of a better run-rate.

Vidarbha will face Group A toppers KSCA XI (13) at Alur 2 on August 9.
The other semifinal will see Mumbai Cricket Association, who took the top spot on the table in Group B with 10 points, take on Group C toppers Cricket Association of Bengal (10) at Alur 3 on the same date.

Defending champions Dr DY Patil Academy crashed out of the tournament.
