The simmering discontent in the state BJP came to the fore at a special meeting of the party convened here on Sunday to finalise its programme in the run-up to the Independence Day celebrations.

Prominent leaders including K S Eshwarappa, C T Ravi, Banuprakash among others stayed away from the meeting, though they were present in Bengaluru. Eshwarappa and his supporters are unhappy over the style of functioning of state president B S Yeddyurappa and had complained to the party’s central leadership recently.

The meeting decided that during the intervening night of August 14-15, thousands of youths from the BJP Yuva Morcha and the party’s IT Cell will participate in “Run for Bharat” in Bengaluru. Bike rallies will also be held across the state on August 9 (Quit India Day).
