Two motorcyclists mowed down by a speeding car on the flyover at Garvebhavipalya in Madiwala on Sunday evening.

The deceased were identified as Silash Kumar, 32, a resident of Austin Town and Tirupathi Reddy, 45, BTM Layout. The accident took place around 8.30 pm when the victims were returning home. The car was proceeding from Electronics City to Madiwala.

The driver lost control over the car due to reckless driving and rammed the two bikes from behind, said the police.

The impact of the collision was so huge that Silash Kumar was thrown down from the flyover with his bike.

He fell on Hosur Road and died on the spot. Reddy also died of multiple injuries on the spot. The car driver abandoned the vehicle on the spot and fled, said the police.

Silash Kumar owned a chicken stall, while Reddy ran a paying guest accommodation facility in BTM Layout. The bodies were moved to St Johns Hospital for post mortem. The police are searching for the driver.

2 groups clash at Mutt meet

Tension prevailed when two groups of devotees of Sosale Vyasaraja Mutt attempted to manhandle each other during a meeting at Gururaja Association auditorium in NR Colony on Sunday. Elders of the Mutt intervened, pacified the devotees and controlled the situation. The meeting was convened to discuss about choosing a new seer for the Mutt as the present seer Vidyamanoharateertha Swami is involved in a cheque bounce case.

A section of the devotees had demanded that the seer step down. He had promised to step down and make Prahlad Acharya his successor, said sources.

The seer did not keep his word and made Pushkar Acharya his successor. The devotees moved the court and the court directed the seer and the devotees to maintain status quo. Vyasaraj, who led a section of the devotees, said that the seer had violated the court order and made Pushkar Acharya his successor.
