Expedite flexi work timing for women in PSBs, panel tells govt

A Parliamentary panel has expressed unhappiness over the finance ministry not taking enough steps to expeditiously ensure flexi timing for women in public sector banks.

The Committee on Empowerment of Women, headed by Trinamool Congress MP Bijoya Chakravarty, is also upset with the State Bank of India’s (SBI) “seemingly unreserved submission” about the infeasibility of the scheme.

In the government’s action-taken report tabled in Parliament on Wednesday, the committee emphasised the need for flexi working hours for women.

“The committee would again unfailingly underscore the need for providing women employees of all PSBs an additional leeway in terms of flexi working hours to bring in better work-life coherence, the coherence that at times goes haywire amid the taxing intricacies of modern life,” the report said.

DH report

DH had in August last year reported the recommendations of the committee, which had nudged the government to have a re-look at the issue as it felt that measures like flexi working hours would encourage more women to take up jobs in banks.
