Inderjeet still hopeful of participating in Rio

Shot-putter Inderjeet Singh on Thursday raised concerns over the testing of the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) by revealing discrepancies in the results of the tests done on his sample collected on June 29 during the Inter-State meet in Hyderabad.

The 28-year-old’s June 22 sample had returned positive for steroids androsterone and etiocholanolone. However, his June 29 sample, the Athletic Federation of India (AFI) had intimated on July 26th, as coming negative. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), after the athlete sought the reports of all his recent dope tests, informed him that his June 29 sample, too, had turned positive. It sent him a notice along with the lab report. However, AFI via an e-mail dated August 10 once again informed him that his test had returned negative, attaching it with the original NDTL report.

Inderjeet, who has been claiming conspiracy and tampering of his doping samples from the outset, was hopeful that the discrepancies would open doors to his Rio Games participation.

“How can you have two different reports of one A sample. This shows there is some problem with the lab. I have all the documents attesting to these facts. I have been saying this from the beginning that someone has done this with ill intention. I request the Prime Minister to step in and look into the matter. My competition is on August 18 and I can still make it, if swift action is taken,” Inderjeet told Deccan Herald.

The shot-putter has also questioned that how within seven days (provided his June 29 sample has returned negative) his body was free of dope.

“I am still awaiting a few documents from NADA. The case of Narsingh Yadav has given me hope. I have been giving consistent performance for so many years.  My lawyer (RK Anand) will now see what can be done further.”
