Corporator's office among buildings razed in Srinagar

The BBMP began razing 19 buildings on a stormwater drain in Srinagar on Thursday.

So far, five buildings have been brought down while the others will be demolished in the next one week.

These buildings were constructed in 1985 and housed offices of BBMP and other civic agencies besides some private shops.

The ward corporator’s office was also razed in the demolition. The BBMP had built a concrete slab on which two-storeyed buildings were also constructed in violation of norms.

No construction is allowed on stormwater drains. A BBMP engineer said the Palike has sent across the message that it won't hesitate to demolish its own buildings that have violated norms.
