Experts from various fields felt for a need to acquaint the younger generation with the age-old customs of Tulunadu, along with convincing them about the scientific importance.

At an interactive programme organised by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy on ‘Ati month and Ayurveda’ at Tulu Bhavan on Thursday, Alva’s Ayurveda College, Moodbidri, Professor Dr Subrahmanya Padyana said that the medicinal values of the flora and fauna have been mentioned in Ramayana.

He detailed upon the benefits obtained from the intake of green vegetables during rainy season.
Tulu Academy former member Dayanand Kattalsar said our ancestors discovered the benefits of the herbs and included it in day-to-day menu so that everyone can benefit from them.

Karnataka Ayurveda College Associate Professor Dr Sandip Bekal said that Ayurveda was a way of life and not only the mode of treatment. Ayurveda prevents most of the diseases, he added.

Prajavani Mangaluru senior reporter Rajalakshmi Kodibettu opined there was a need to include the traditional sports of Tulunadu in the school curriculum. Many children of today are deprived of taking part in games such as Chennemane, Kuntobille and so on.

These games may also be included in the sports day of the schools, so as to popularise them among children, she suggested.
