The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Friday remanded Rajeshwari and Navaneeth Shetty --- the wife and son of businessman Bhaskar Shetty and the suspects his murder case --- in police custody till August 16.

Also, the key suspect, Niranjan Bhat, was produced at the magistrate’s house at 11 pm on Friday and he has also been remanded in police custody till August 16.

Soon after Rajeshwari and Navaneeth Shetty were brought to the court, Magistrate Rajesh Karanam remanded them in four-day police custody.

The police had sought the custody for a week. However, it has been extended only for four days. Both mother and son were taken to the government hospital for a routine health check-up before producing them in the court.

A highly placed  police source told Deccan Herald Niranjan Bhat, was discharged from the hospital.

The investigating team would take up two three rounds of search accompanied by the suspects. ‘Mahazar’ is yet to be conducted in the area where the body was burnt, the source added.

Three teams have been formed and a DNA expert has come down from Bengaluru to look into the DNA samples and the same would be sent to forensic science laboratory (FSL), the source added.

Meanwhile, all the three suspects are being interrogated and the police are highly dependent on the findings of the investigation.

The source added that the phone calls of the suspects are also being verified.

The ‘Homa Kunda’ where Bhaskar Shetty’s body was burnt has been removed entirely and the experts are checking the spot for evidence.

It is said that Bhat’s father Srinivas Bhat has agreed to the offence committed by his son only after a repeated inquiry. Initially, he declined. Four to five rounds of inquiry was held and later, he confessed to the crime. Niranjan Bhat’s driver Raghavendra has also been a part in destroying the evidence, but in the later stages, the source added.

The source also confirmed that the body was burnt in the ‘Homa Kunda’.

It was too small to accommodate a man. The accused later extended the height of the ‘Homa Kunda’ according to the height of Bhaskar Shetty to burn him in it. It was later dug for destroying the evidence.

The source added that everything would be confirmed after the FSL report and added that the case would surely end up in the conviction due to sufficient circumstantial evidences gathered by the police.

SP K T Balakrishna said the forensic experts have arrived, collected the DNA samples and other evidences and have sent them to forensic science laboratory for examination. The report is awaited, he added.

The police are systematically analysing the video clippings and other evidences for an impartialy inquiry, the source said.
