11K people to witness I-Day parade in B'luru

As many as 11,000 people will witness the Independence Day parade at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade ground in Bengaluru on Monday (August 15).

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will unfurl the National Flag in the presence of Governor Vajubhai Vala at 9 am. The chief minister will receive the guard of honour from 2,000 people spread over 54 contingents of police, Scouts and Guides, National Cadet Corps, Seva Dal amongst others.

More than 2,000 children will present cultural programmes on the occasion, said BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad,  who is also the chairperson of the Independence Day celebration committee.

Security has been tightened in the capital with the deployment of Garuda Commando Force, two platoons of Rapid Action Force and 40 platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police. As many as 40 CCTV cameras have been installed around the venue, City Police Commissioner N S Megharik said.

The top cop said that there was no specific alert from the Intelligence agencies. Two bullet-proof vehicles, two commando vehicles and two bomb disposal squads have also been deployed while baggage scanners have been installed at all entry points.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) R Hitendra said that traffic and parking arrangements had been made around the venue. Manjunath Prasad said that disaster management cells comprising 10 doctors, 30 paramedical staff, ambulance and fire and emergency personnel will be deployed at the ground. Beds have also been reserved at the nearby hospitals, he added.
