Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar on Saturday said the BJP will support the state government’s next course of action on the Mahadayi water dispute.

“When it comes to protecting the interests of the state, the BJP is open to all options. If necessary, the BJP MPs will speak to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Mahadayi issue,” Ananth Kumar said, replying to queries from reporters on Saturday.

The Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal, last month, had rejected the state’s plea for an interim award seeking the diversion of 7 tmc ft of water from Mahadayi river to improve drinking water supply to four districts of North Karnataka.

GST
Ananth Kumar said he has been entrusted with the responsibility of speaking to states on issues related to the GST bill, in his capacity as parliamentary affairs minister.

Constitutional requirement makes it necessary that at least 15 state legislatures ratify the GST legislation.

‘Positive response’
“I am in touch with various chief ministers including Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and all of them have showed a positive response to get the bill passed in their respective legislatures,” he said.

Assam on Friday became the first state to ratify the GST bill.

He said the state BJP will organise a felicitation function for Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Bengaluru for his role in ushering in the GST regime.
