An array of activities has been planned by citizen groups and associations on the eve of the 70th Independence day. Marathons, flag hoisting events, food fests and other programmes will mark the I-Day celebrations in the city.

Vasanthanagar Residents' Welfare Association (VRWA) in association with Bal Bhavan Society, Vikram Hospital and Shangri-La Hotel will be making the Independence day a memorable one for underprivileged children by organising a children's day out.

About 125 kids in the age group 8-15 years will be spending  time on the Bal Bhavan premises, taking part in painting and clay modelling.

VRWA president Abdul Azeez said: “Earlier we had undertaken several projects such as tree planting. This time we decided to do something for poor children. Along with fun activities, trainers will talk to the children on personal safety  and hygiene.” For fitness enthusiasts, Kaagaz Foundation is organising the fourth edition of HSR 10K freedom run at 6.30 am.

The run that will kickstart at service road between Agara Lake and Freedom International School will see over 500 women, men, boys and girls in action in 10K and 5K categories.

The charity event is being held to create an awareness among citizens for a greener and healthier Bengaluru.

At Hosur Road, a street campaign will be held and volunteers will distribute Tricolour badges and  postcards with a statement: ‘Help one random person today and pass it on to him or her’.

Support for Network and Extension Help Agency (SNEHA) will organise an event where over 10,000 students will wash their hands simultaneously at their respective schools in Ramanagaram to mark the World Hand Washing Day on Monday.

Dhanashekaran, spokesperson for SNEHA, said that students from 167 government schools will take part in the event after celebrating the Independence Day.
