Pak exports only terror, says India

Delhi rebuffs Islamabad's offer to send supplies to Kashmir

Pakistan’s trademark exports are international terrorism, cross-border infiltrators, weapons, narcotics and fake currency, India said on Sunday, in an angry reaction to its proposal to send supplies to Jammu and Kashmir.

Describing the offer as absurd, New Delhi retorted that India and other regional nations have already received enough of Pakistan’s trademark exports, including terrorism.

The rebuke comes in the wake of an official communication to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, in which the Nawaz Sharif government asked whether it can send supplies to J&K, which is witnessing protests and turmoil for more than a month since the killing of terrorist Burhan Wani. Curfew was imposed, disrupting life in the Valley and affecting the supply of essential goods.

The crisis was discussed in Parliament twice in the monsoon session, during which the government said it would initiate dialogue with all political parties and moderates in J&K to find out a solution to the agitation, which led to the death of more than 50 people and wounded thousands others.

“A communication was apparently delivered to our High Commission in Islamabad on August 12. I can only characterise its contents that propose sending supplies to the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir as absurd,” Vikas Swarup, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, said.

The provocative note verbale from Islamabad was submitted to the Indian High Commission two days before Pakistan High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit issued a statement asserting that “Pakistan would continue to extend full diplomatic, political and moral support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir till they get their right to self-determination”.

Basit not only stressed on the political aspirations of the people of the state, but went on to observe that nobody could belittle or wish away the legitimate struggle and enormous sacrifices made by the people.
