The wife of Union minister Gen (retd) V K Singh has lodged an FIR against a man for blackmailing her with the help of “doctored” audio and video recordings.

A case of extortion and criminal intimidation has been registered at New Delhi's Tughlaq Road police station against the accused, Pradeep Chauhan, a realtor and a resident of Gurgaon.

The police have begun investigation. According to police, the case was registered on Saturday. In her complaint, Bharti Singh, wife of the Minister of State for External Affairs, said Chauhan, a friend of her nephew, threatened to make the recordings public unless she paid him Rs 2 crore.

Though Bharti Singh has claimed in her complaint that she does not know the content of the audio and video clips, the police said that Chauhan had secretly recorded a conversation that she had with him at her residence some days back.

He later threatened to doctor it and share it on social media websites to harm the reputation and political career of the minister and his family, police officers said.

In her complaint, Bharti Singh also stated that Chauhan used to call her at odd hours and threatened her of dire consequences if she did not give him Rs 2 crore.
