New dress code for girls in Bihar college

Last Updated 19 August 2016, 19:46 IST

Girls pursuing undergraduate courses in Patna’s prestigious Magadh Mahila College will now have to adhere to a dress code. Under the new rules, framed with effect from this week, girls have to be ‘appropriately’ dressed, preferably in salwar suits.

Any student found wearing hot pants, jeans, leggings, mini skirts, or sleeveless tops and shirts will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 and their names will be entered in the college indiscipline book.

If they are found to disregard the dress code a second time, they will be rusticated.

‘Not dress diktat’

Announcing the decision, college principal Asha Singh said, “It is not a dress diktat. But we want our girls to be modestly dressed. Being the head of the institution, it is my responsibility to enforce discipline.”
