Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs and Minor Irrigation T B Jayachandra on Sunday said lack of coordination between local bodies and the planning department is leading to encroachment on government lands, including lakes.

The government will set right this problem soon, he said.
Jayachandra was speaking at a programme organised by the ‘Karnataka Nagara Mattu Gramantara Yojana Elakha Noukarara Sangha’ to felicitate meritorious students in the city.
Defending the BBMP’s eviction drive on rajakuluves, Jayachandra said the government’s action was inevitable keeping the future of the city in mind.

The government will initiate necessary action to prevent encroachment on government lands, particularly water bodies. He said the government has been contemplating formulation of a law in this regard.

Jayachandra said the planning department cannot be blamed for mistakes committed by local bodies while giving clearances to construction activities.

He sought the cooperation of all departments while formulating a law , saying presently, the departments were not extending support.

He also said a meeting will be held with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to discuss ways to enhance the scope of urban and rural planning departments.
