Touts promise MBA, turn out to be NPA

Last Updated 06 March 2010, 19:24 IST

In a complaint lodged with the Sanjaynagar police, Koshy said that two 'brokers' Abhishek and Abhijit Tippaiah had promised MBA seat to him for a sum of Rs four lakh. Apparently, impressed with the duo's claim about their proximity to the college management, Koshy first paid Rs three lakh in cash, then another lakh through demand draft (DD). Later, he got an ‘admission certificate’ from the duo, but it turned out to be fake.

In order to assure Koshy, the accused also asked him to fax the documents of his educational qualifications to a number, said to be  that of the college.

But when nothing worked out, an upset Koshy approached the college authorities to enquire about the seat, but was told that the seat against which a payment was made through the DD was given to another student. A case under Section 420 of IPC has been registered and the police are investigating the matter.

This is not the first instance when some over smart swindlers have duped a student in MSRIT. Last December, Deccan Herald had reported about an African student of MBBS who was duped by two persons who falsely promised to pass him in the exams, but fled after taking Rs10 lakh.
