The Odisha government has organised a two-day event beginning Friday in Bengaluru to celebrate 80 years of its statehood.

Addressing a press meet in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Odisha Industries minister Debi Prasad Mishra said that the state would launch its start-up policy at the event.

‘Odisha Industries Meet’ has also been organised on the occasion, to attract investments to the state. Industrialists including Biocon Chief Kiran Mazumdar Shaw will take part in the meet.

Mishra said he was meeting various ministers and department heads to highlight the investment potential of the state.

“I am meeting the IT Minister shortly and hopefully, it will lead to a fruitful interaction. For the symposium, we have identified 40 to 50 high profile attendees,” he added. Besides attracting investment, the event is likely to bring together seven lakh Odiyas in Karnataka.

There will also be other activities like blood donation camps, cultural shows, among others. The event will commemorate the birth centenary of Biju Patnaik, the former chief minister of Odisha.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will be present on the second day of the event. Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah has also been invited for the programme, he added. Highlighting Odisha’s industrial potential, Mishra said the state was ranked seventh in India in attracting investments.

The state’s industrial policy had been modified and the new policy provides incentives on par with many other industrially developed states. The policy hopes to attract Rs 1.73 lakh crore investment by 2019-20 across all sectors.
