Shaap’, located in Indiranagar, lives up to its name by serving authentic spicy Kerala ‘shaap’ cuisine. Even a person who’s unfamiliar with this kind of food is sure to enjoy.

The striking feature about this place is its ambience which is somewhat like the local ‘shaap’ (toddy shop). The amazing wall paintings and the shelf on the wall stacked with books are other things that catch one’s attention.

So if you like or want to try Kerala cuisine, this is the place to head to without
thinking about the cost factor. The menu at the restaurant is an extensive one and there is a lot to experiment with.

Try out the ‘sambaram’ (Kerala style buttermilk). The taste of ginger and the slight hint of green chilly, that one can experience with every sip, is sure to leave you feeling refreshed and wanting for more. As you sip on the buttermilk, ask for a plate of ‘Kappa mullagu’ (boiled tapioca served with two kinds of chutneys) and a plate of ‘Prawn roast’ for starters.

In the main course, the ‘chicken biryani’ is something worth trying. Don’t flip the menu thinking you will experience the usual ‘biryani’, for this one is different. However, if you are one of those who can’t handle spicy food, be aware that it might be too hot for you. Anyway, the taste of the spices will leave you craving for more. The chicken is soft and cooked well.

If you still have some space left for more, try out their ‘appam’ — it is soft and succulent and can be eaten with the prawn roast as well. After the spicy experience, it’s time to treat your sweet tooth. Ask for a bowl of ‘Godambu payasam’ and you will not regret your choice.

‘Shaap’ is located at 1010, 13th Main Road, HAL SecondStage, Doopanahalli, Indiranagar. For details, contact 9980724004.
