Maoist leaders meet in Kolkata

Last Updated 30 August 2016, 19:02 IST

Barely a kilometre away from the headquarters of the Kolkata Police, a number of veteran Maoist leaders met to condole the death of their comrade Himadri Sen Roy.

Many of those who attended the meet were members of the banned outfit’s polit bureau and central committee.

The city police, however, remained oblivious to the first public event of the Maoists.
The condolence meeting, which took place at Bharat Sabha Hall in central Kolkata, was pre-scheduled, said those who organised the event on Monday.

The main speakers — Narayan Sanyal, Purnendu Sekhar Mukherjee, Chandi Sarkar and Gour Chakraborty — all of them septuagenarians, were released on bail in the last couple of months, after spending several years in jail.
