Mission Million Books

Alibaba Group is launching ‘Mission Million Books’ and invites Indian citizens to donate textbooks and educational material for the benefit of the underprivileged.

Mission Million Books is a pan-India initiative aimed at providing the underprivileged with access to quality educational materials for their growth and advancement. Alibaba Group, in association with Crossword and Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust, will work with its partners to solicit donations; collect and deliver textbooks to schools and colleges across India. Collected material will be distributed to more than 2,500 educational institutions across the country.

Donations can be made between August 18 and September 16, 2016 at any one of the Kotak Mahindra Bank branches, and Shoppers Stop, HyperCity and Crossword stores across major cities in India. Call toll-free hotline 1800-103-7598 for guidelines for donation or visit books.alibaba.com for details.

Webinars for teachers

Cambridge English Language Assessment has launched a webinar calendar for teachers as a part of its teacher development initiative. The educators can attend these webinars from their office or home. All they would require in order to attend a webinar session is a computer with internet access.

Short-term communication courses

Delhi School of Communication (DSC) has started six new short-term courses. These courses are meant for aspiring script writers, production assistants, account executives, account directors, sales executives and sales directors.

Green film contest

The Chopras is joining hands with Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) to organise a film competition, ‘Enter the Big Green Film Challenge’. The five-minute short film contest based on the topic of sustainability is aimed at making students think and act responsibly. The competition is open to all Indian students aged between 15 and 19 years.  Participants can choose to frame their film (documentary or fictional) within the subtopics of people, places or innovation.

Working in a team is approved, but only one person per team can enter the film. The last date to send the application form along with a 300-word note and video is September 5, 2016 at 12 pm (UK time). Every student is allowed to send only one entry. To enter the challenge, it is imperative to fill in all the required details in the form at aub.ac.uk/BigGreenFilmChallenge. Digital Marketing course

Emeritus Institute of Management, in collaboration with the executive arm of Columbia Business School, announces the launch of its course in ‘Digital Marketing: customer engagement, social media, planning & analytics’. The 10-week certificate programme will start from October 6, 2016.

Scholarships for single girl child

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited applications for Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child 2016-17. These scholarships are only applicable to single child (girl) who has taken admission in regular, full-time first year Masters degree course in any recognised university or a postgraduate college. Girl students up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in PG courses are eligible for this scholarship. The value of the scholarship is Rs 2,000 per month for a period of two years.

The candidate is required to submit an application only through the online mode and would need to submit proof of admission to first year Masters degree course in a recognised Indian university, a certificate from the college or university where the student has taken admission to first year PG course in the current academic year and an affidavit on Rs 50 stamp paper from the student or parent, duly attested by sub divisional magistrate (SDM) or First Class Magistrate or Gazetted Officer copying the prescribed languages. CBSE group Mathematics Olympiad

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the CBSE group Mathematics Olympiad for students studying in its affliated schools for the year 2016. Students from Classes 9 and 10 can apply by remitting a sum of Rs 100 as entry fee.

The fee should be forwarded by the principal of the participating school to the state coordinator. A school can sponsor maximum five students for the competition. There will be a common question paper for students from all the classes. Bright students from Class 8 can also appear for the exam. The last date to apply is September 5, 2016. The exam will be held in October 2016.

Interior design courses

Creators & Designers — Institute of Interior Design has collaborated with NMKRV College for Women and Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College for Women for a certified six-month course and one-year diploma in interior design for students, housewives, senior citizens and working executives.

US Education Fair

The US Education Fair will be hosted in Bengaluru at Vivanta by Taj, MG Road from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on September 3, 2016. The fair will be preceded by workshops starting at 2:00 PM. The other three Indian cities to participate in this education fair are Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. These education fairs will bring together admission officers from more than 40 American universities, and students aspiring to pursue higher education in the US, hosted by KIC UnivAssist.

This provides an opportunity for students and their parents to meet with representatives from US universities and get answers to their queries about the various degree programmes, eligibility requirements, fee structure, living expenses, and other application procedures at these universities. Students can register free of charge through the KIC UnivAssist’s mobile app ‘StudentAssist’, or on www.univassist.com/student.aspx. Free registrations will also be available onsite.

Camel Art Foundation contest

Camel Art Foundation (CAF) — the philanthropic wing of Kokuyo Camlin Limited has announced launch of Camel Art Foundation (CAF) 2016 contest and invited online entries to participate in the contest. The contest is open to all professional artists and students. There is no entry fee and the age criteria for applying is 18 years and above.

Applicant has to fill up the form and attach a high resolution image of the painting and a copy of student ID card, if applicable, and submit the entry. A unique system generated code will be created which will be the reference code. The participants have to submit their entries online by logging on to www.camelartfoundation.com/about-contest.html.
