Terming the BJP-led NDA government at the centre “pro-rich” and “anti-Dalit”, BSP supremo Mayawati on Sunday said that the Union government was conspiring to scrap reservation for Dalits. Addressing a public meeting in Allahabad, about 200 km from here, Mayawati said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies were in favour of the rich and big industrial houses.

“The centre has been encouraging privatisation...there is no reservation in the private sector...it is in fact a conspiracy to scrap the reservation system,” the BSP leader said before the huge gathering.

“The policies and programmes of the government will only benefit the rich and capitalists...the poor and Dalits will not get any benefits from them,” she said, referring to the smart city project of the centre.

Mayawati also accused Modi of not fulfilling the promises he had made during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. “There is no ‘achhe din’...in reality we are facing ‘bure din’ (bad days),” she added. The BSP supremo also termed the BJP “anti-Dalit” and added that Dalits have been facing most persecution in the BJP-ruled states of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Mayawati blamed the Modi government for the ongoing unrest in Kashmir, adding that the Centre’s “wrong policies” had “aggravated” the crisis. She also attacked the Congress and said that the latter had made an old lady its chief ministerial nominee in the UP Assembly polls to attract upper caste voters. “The Congress will not succeed in its game plan,” she added.

Mayawati said that the law and order situation in UP had turned for the worse during the Samajwadi Party (SP) regime. “This government has failed completely on the law and order front,” she said exuding confidence that the BSP would form the next government.
She also targeted the media and said that it did not show the “true” picture of the mood of the people of the state and were opposed to the BSP.
